From small coffee or occasional tables to large statement pieces, our tables combine the stunning natural texture, colour and shape of the tree with the clean, modern lines of the glass.
These beautiful sculptural tables are made from tree stumps that have lain in the woods, weathering naturally, for many years. Each piece is unique because it's designed around the growth patterns of each particular tree stump. The table tops are made from specially commissioned thick plate glass designed specifically to complement the twists and turns of the wood.
The tables are made in partnership by Matthew Bate and Neil Davenport. Matt is a woodsman (tree surgeon and arboricultural instructor) and Neil is an engineer. Matt and Neil have been friends for many years and started experimenting with making tables in 2015. It was Matt’s idea originally to make something beautiful from the amazing sculptural pieces of chestnut that he kept finding in the woods and it was when he and Neil starting working together, combining their skills and creativity that everything started to slot into place.

Matt has been collecting interesting pieces of wood over many years from small woodlands, predominantly owned and managed by his family for many generations. The tree stumps have been naturally weathered by the elements for up to 50 years to create the amazing shapes and textures you can see in the wood.

Our workshop is five miles from Exeter in Devon close to the end of the M5, where clients are encouraged to come and choose which piece of wood (some are very large) they would like us to use for their commission.
